One reason for setting up this website is to make available supporting material for my book Holding Out: The German Army and Operational Command in 1917 (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2023). As I’ve explained in the Introduction, the book grounds parts of its analysis on statistics covering the prosopography of officers and military formations such as divisions. The statistical information is drawn from two databases which it’s currently not possible to publish.
What I can do is post my background workings which fed the databases – you’ll find them here, together with other detail expanding on points in the book. I’m still adding to this material, so more will be appearing: watch this space!
